Problems setting up Internet connection

I've installed and been running Mandrake 9.2 and have been trying to set up my internet connection.

I used the drakconnect wizard to detect my modem and enter my ISP info, but got the following message

"Problems occurred during configuration.
Test your connection via net_monitor or mcc.
If your connection doesn't work, you might want to relaunch the configuration."

I have no idea what this means, or what net_monitor or mcc are???

Can anyone help???

(I'm a complete newbie, so please explain in words of no more than 2 syllables!! )

Welcome to LQ.

mcc is the Mandrake Control Center. I assume that net_monitor is another Mandrake app.

Ok. Thanks for that.

Still not sure where I'm going wrong though!!

One thing I've just noticed is there's nothing where it says Interface. Is that important?

Probably not - Mandrake is likely to make it transparent to the user.

What kind of modem do you have? It will make a big difference because most Winmodems are not supported. (as far as I know)
Check the mandrake site to see if it is supported.

It's a 'proper' modem (not a winmodem)

It does dial sometimes, but not connect.
