Problems receiving multicast data

My snippet of code for receiving data multicast on a 224.0.0.x is not working on my machine. The multicast server program that waits for data being multicast by other machines on the address works fine on other PCs but not on mine. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 and I have shut down ipv6 for the interface eth0 on which I am multicasting. Any ideas on what the problems could be? Please let me know if I should paste the outputs of some commands.

Thanks.
