Problems loading the nvidia ethernet driver?

Hello and thanks for taking the time to read about my problem. I installed SuSE 9.0 on a shuttle an35n motherboard with onboard sound and ethernet. Neither worked after the install. O.K. I can live without sound but I need the internet. I went to the nvidia site and downloaded the latest version of the drivers. I could not get the rpm to install so I did a tar file install. At the make menuconfig Nvidia chipset support was enabled. Everything seemed to go O.K. I've got sound now but no internet. When I do an ls mod I do not see the nvnet module. I've also did a modprobe nvidia with no results. How do I need to confirme driver installation or even see if it is there? I must have done something right to get the sound to work and if it loaded should not have the nic driver loaded? Also, I've tried to configure with yast. Hopefully you can point me in the right direction and I'll get it working.

Thanks,

Cliff
