problems kppp

Hi I'm Massimiliano, a new Linux-Mandrake user.
I have some problem with the kppp,
i can't connect to the internet, but I think that the problem
is not the modem 'cause the system recognizes it.
when i launch kppp the telephon-number is composed but
then kppp stops and error-cod 10 arises

this is the log file:

.Oct 25 17:08:54 localhost pppd[2529]: pppd 2.4.1 started by max, uid 501
Oct 25 17:08:54 localhost pppd[2529]: Using interface ppp0
Oct 25 17:08:54 localhost pppd[2529]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttySHSF0
Oct 25 17:09:24 localhost pppd[2529]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Oct 25 17:09:24 localhost pppd[2529]: Connection terminated.
Oct 25 17:09:24 localhost pppd[2529]: Exit

---------------------------------------------------------------------
during this in the shell appears a message: ppp0 device is not found.
I don't understand.

Sometimes the error cod 16 appears and this is the log file:

Oct 25 17:50:51 localhost pppd[2810]: pppd 2.4.1 started by max, uid 501
Oct 25 17:50:51 localhost pppd[2810]: using channel 6

Oct 25 17:51:22 localhost pppd[2810]: Exit.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
I have also tried to change /etc/kppp/option file with an empty file
but nothing was improved

Someone can help me? Thank you!!
