Problems connecting from KPPP to ISP (adelphia)

Config info:
=========
Red Hat V7
CNet 56K modem (external)

Having problems with kppp and connecting to my adelphia.net account
on the WWW.

I've reviewed note 65084 in this forum(http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=65084); it is the same problem that I have, with the only difference being the use of earthlink versus adelphia.

The resolution in that case was to specify "user@earthlink.net" in pap-secrets, which I have also done but without success so far.

Will check the other threads in this forum but if anyone has experience setting up KPPP for adelphia.net under RH7 or higher, please let me know.

Here's the errors when trying to use both PAP and CHAP authentication:

PAP:
====
Jan 31 01:53:16 wolverine pppd[1164]: pppd 2.3.11 started by root, uid 0
Jan 31 01:53:16 wolverine pppd[1164]: Using interface ppp0
Jan 31 01:53:16 wolverine pppd[1164]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0
Jan 31 01:53:17 wolverine pppd[1164]: PAP authentication failed
Jan 31 01:53:23 wolverine pppd[1164]: Connection terminated.
Jan 31 01:53:23 wolverine pppd[1164]: Exit.

CHAP:
=====
Jan 31 01:58:39 wolverine pppd[1173]: pppd 2.3.11 started by root, uid 0
Jan 31 01:58:39 wolverine pppd[1173]: Using interface ppp0
Jan 31 01:58:39 wolverine pppd[1173]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0
Jan 31 01:58:40 wolverine pppd[1173]: CHAP authentication failed
Jan 31 01:58:46 wolverine pppd[1173]: Connection terminated.
Jan 31 01:58:46 wolverine pppd[1173]: Exit.

From my pap-secrets file:
===================

# Secrets for authentication using PAP
# client server secret IP addresses
user@adelphia.net * ********

From my chap-secrets file:
===================

# Secrets for authentication using CHAP
# client server secret IP addresses
#dialin #1
domain\\user * **********
#dialin #2
user@adelphia.net * ********

***NOTE: dialin#1 above is to my workplace, which works fine.***
***NOTE: I've tried "domain\\user", "domain\\user@" and "user@" in pap/chap but no difference.***

Modem info:
=========
ttyS00 at 0x03f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A

Can provide more info. if necessary.
Thanks in advance for any/all replies.

Got this working, but not with KPPP..

I got no replies on this, but the REAL resolution was to
set up my WXP system as an ICS server and set up my RH7 and RH9 systems as ICS clients.

Once I configured the router properly in WXP Pro, the rest was pretty straight-forward:

/WXP
/Linksys Router
/DHCP & DNS provided by Adelphia
/ICS turned on
|
|
V
/RH7
/Define DHCP & DNS servers in /etc/hosts
/Define DHCP & DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf
|
|
V
/RH9
/Define DHCP & DNS servers in /etc/hosts
/Define DHCP & DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf
