i have a little problem and no idea where to start from..
my network is like this: cable modem > ----LAN wire---- eth0 fedora core 3 eth1 -- LAN wire--- windows xp machine.
everything worked fine untill a power failure that lasted for 30 mins or so.. ups went empty so linux machine rebooted. when everything was back to normal, win xp machine could not complete http requests or whatever they are. i`ll give you and example. in a IM chat window in yahoo messenger, when you click games for example, it pops up a menu, which is http, it is downloaded from somewhere from yahoo servers. when I click games, it does nothing. same with audibles menus, file transfer and so on.
also, live stream with winamp doesn`t work either. it gives a could not connect error
another example, if you know Steam. in the monitor window it shows a banner from the content server. well.. that space is a blank white. no banner was downloaded.
you can use tcpdump or tethereal (believe thats the correct spelling for that)
tethereal is a txt only version of ethereal.
Can you access the web without problems from the linux box (using something like lynx perhaps)
slightly stupid question so excuse for asking it
did you ever reboot the linux machine since you managed to get the routing configured?
(what does iptables -L give you) {just a hinch but I have seen much in my days}
My hunch actually was it that the tables were not saved and so after the involentary reboot your rule about routing would be no more.
(sorry is 2am here I'll come back later after I slept over it)
