Problem with IP/Ethernet

Hi,

I've installed F10. My server has been assigned a static address. So I want to setup my machine to use the static address. I changed /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth0 and it looks like this:

Code:
# Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme II BCM5708 Gigabit Ethernet
DEVICE=eth0
HWADDR=00:22:19:ad:3b:5c
BOOTPROTO=none
TYPE=Ethernet
ONBOOT=no
USERCTL=no
PEERDNS=no
IPV6INIT=no
NM_CONTROLLED=yes
NETMASK=255.255.252.0
IPADDR=153.104.63.200
GATEWAY=153.104.60.1

Then I said /sbin/service NetworkManger restart to restart the eth0 interface. However, In that little network icon on the top right of the screen (next to date), I get two options: Auto Ehternet and System eth0.

For some reason, after restarting it always goes to Auto Ethernet and the machine uses DHCP to get a new IP. If I click on system Eth0, the machine gets the static IP.

1. I always want to use the static IP. How can I set this in Fedora so that it never does Auto Ethernet? What preference/config file do I have to set?

2. In static IP mode, I'm having problems with DNS name resolution. If I say nslookup a.b.c.d it can't find any information. nslookup works fine in DHCP. How can I fix this with the static IP case?

I had specified the DNS servers in the DNS tab in Network but they don't seem to be helping...

Should I just disable NetworkManager and have the network service run some other way?

I appreciate any quick response. I've wasted a day trying to solve these issues.

try using system-config-network-tui

i also noticed
Quote:
BOOTPROTO=none
ONBOOT=no
USERCTL=no
NM_CONTROLLED=yes
BOOTPROTO=STATIC
ONBOOT=YES
USERCTL=YES

for the DNS problem edit /etc/resolv.conf
add
nameserver=x.x.x.x

Thanks for responding. I got this issue resolved.

I shut down NetworkManager from the service pane. I used the Network pane to apply all the information for DNS, static IP etc. I deselected "Controlled by NetworkManager" and enabled "the device at boot time". This automatically set USRCTL=yes and BOOTPROTO=static when I saved changes. The DNS were correctly placed in /etc/resolv.conf

Now everything seems to be working.

Thanks again.
