Question Problem starting vncserver

More learning curve!

OK, when I try and run vncserver I get the following output:

[root@firewall bin]# Xvnc
Couldn't open RGB_DB '/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb'
25/10/01 23:22:18 Xvnc version 3.3.3r2
25/10/01 23:22:18 Copyright (C) AT&T Laboratories Cambridge.
25/10/01 23:22:18 All Rights Reserved.
25/10/01 23:22:18 See http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc for information on VNC
25/10/01 23:22:18 Desktop name 'x11' (:0)
25/10/01 23:22:18 Protocol version supported 3.3
25/10/01 23:22:18 Listening for VNC connections on TCP port 5900

Fatal server error:
Couldn't add screen

Have run ps -ax and the server isn't running. I don't even know where to start - can't find anything on the vnc site. Anybody know what's going on?

(I really appreciate all this help BTW guys...)

Cheers, BH

Thumbs down Update

Update to this problem, not sure if it's related - this happens when I try to start x:

[root@firewall /root]# startx
execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno 2)
xinit: unexpected signal 2.

Have found out that this means that x is not correctly configured, so could anyone tell me the simplest way of reinstalling it - I assume from the rpms on the RH 7.1 disks?

Cheers, BH

Thumbs up Sledgehammer approach!

Reinstalled RH 7.1 with custom install - chose the components I needed - now it's all working....

Excellent....
