Question problem setting up NIS

i am trying to set up a NIS server under RH 7.1, but am having a little problem...
i ftp'd the necessary files from ftp.kernel.org
from there i have gone through the following steps:
- {terminal} configure --enable-yppasswd --enable-ypmake --enable-checkroot [enter]
- edited the makefile to suit my needs.
- typed "make" [enter]

then the following happens on the next input:

[root@machineName ypserv-1.3.11]# make install
/usr/ypserv-1.3.11/mkinstalldirs /usr/lib/yp /var/yp
/usr/ypserv-1.3.11/mkinstalldirs /usr/sbin /usr/man/man5
/usr/ypserv-1.3.11/mkinstalldirs /usr/man/man8 /etc
/usr/ypserv-1.3.11/mkinstalldirs /usr/bin /usr/man/man1
/usr/ypserv-1.3.11/mkinstalldirs /usr/include/rpcsvc /etc
/usr/bin/ginstall -c -m 755 -s ypserv /usr/sbin
make: /usr/bin/ginstall: Command not found
make: *** [install_progs] Error 127
[root@machineName ypserv-1.3.11]#

sorry, i am a fairly advanced user, and have basically just started with NIS.
is there a way to fix this?
or what have i done wrong?
