Problem in setting up a web server


Hello all i am a newbie to Mandriva 2006 and need a guide on how to set up a web server now i have install apache and everything but the funny thing is when i goto my local ip address 127.0.0.1 it says that the connection has been refused, well what does that mean?

i have set everything up at dyndns.org and i have configured the ip addresss on etho called 192.168.1.68

my dns are 195.92.195.94
195.92.195.95
my gatway is 192.168.1.1

but i just don't know why it is saying connection has been refused even when connecting to the localhost ip?

it would be call if people could help

can you be more specific? What exactly didn't work.. the command or the server?

You can use ps aux | grep apache to see if the server is running.
Also check /var/log/apache/error.log to see if there are any errors with apache that might prevent it from starting.

Please post more info.

when using the command ps aux | grep apache that is what i get,

root 9203 0.0 0.0 516 144 pts/3 R+ 01:17 0:00 grep apache

also the apachectl start command did not work for me in mandriva 2006

OK so apache isn't running. You have to use the apachectl command as root as well. It should be located in /usr/sbin. If not try using locate to find it..
