port 901 is used for SWAT, a web front end for samba. you don't need it, there's nothign you can't do just by looking etc /etc/samba/smb.conf don't be scared of editing fiels by hand, you'll learn so much more so much faster.

Puru - had the same problem. You need to edit /etc/xinetd.d/swat to allow you to connect to SWAT. Change the default line disable=yes to disable=no then you must restart xinetd from the terminal with the line /etc/init.d/xinetd restart <enter> you will then be able to start SWART which uses a browser window. This will put you into the GUI for configuring SAMBA

Hope this helps

swat is nice, but I think that comand line is better, if you decide to go command line, and learn tons of staff here is a link for samba

Try webmin

I used webmin for setting up/accessing SWAT as well as most every other linux configuration

www.webmin.com

Webmin makes life a lot easier for all of your admin needs and can be configured for SSL encryption. (recommended)
