problem in adding routes with ip route
Hi all
here is the problem:

consider I have a route in the main routing table that is:

IP_1 via IP_2 dev eth1 proto static

if I wanna add this route too,

IP_1 via IP_2 dev eth1 src IP_3

(IP_1 , IP_2 , IP_3 are different ip addresses)

it gives me the file exist error or somethin that obviously means the route already exists. But I see some programs that they can add such routes. So what makes it a big deal that I can't but some programs like gnome-network-manager can?

That's impossible, you can however replace the existing route with your new route. You can also put the route in another routing table if you wish.

thanks for the reply. according to the route v2 manual, your right. But I said, some programs like network manager in ubuntu, can do that and it makes me wonder. for example, if you make a pptp vpn with that network-manager stuff and then do list the route in main table, you'd see that!!!!

I think some programs use an other ways to put routings for example the route program. and whenever you try to see the ip route v2 outout it translates them to the iproutev2 manner. so you can see them like that. but what would be the point to solve your problem like exactly the way you mentioned, while you can use another approaches!
