problem configure network card


Hi,

I have one a RH machine two nics.

one of tham (eth1) has now and Ip address, I want it to be without an Ip address and that It will allways boot in promisc mode.

Insted of issuing: ifconfig eth1 promisc

another thing, I dont want that this nic will search for a DHCP server each time the machine boots.

please help.

as far as the DHCP is concerned you can give the command netconfig on the terminal. now from there choose the option Network COnfiguration.in network configuration you can deselect the DHCP option or select the Static IP address option. by this your nic will not look for a DHCP each time its boots. also try leaving the ip address field blank in network configuration wizard. this will leave your nic with no ip address.
