I recently installed red hat linux 9 and i can see the shared drives from the windows box. I got an Epson Stylus CX5200 printer connected to a USB Port on my windows box. I downloaded and installed samba and webmin for linux. I created a share on webmin called

Epson Stylus CX5200 (Set as dafault printer)

On my windows box i've shared the printer, but my linux box cannot find the printer. i tell it that its a networked Windows (SMB) printer and it still doesnt find it. i filled in the info for the printer but im confused on what i type in.

On Workgroup, do i type in my workgroup of my network?

On Share, what share do i type in? the one done on Webmin or the one in windows?

On server, is it the one under my workgroup? or the one in webmin?

I would like a step by step guide of how to set up a windows printer so that i can print from my linux box. i've seen alot of global config files from samba and that is no good to me.

Are your Windows box and Linux box in the same workgroup? Enter this command:

grep workgroup /etc/samba/smb.conf

and look for the un-commented line:

workgroup = MYGROUP

If you need to change it, edit the above file with the editor of your choice then restart Samba via:

service smb restart
