Printing over Samba / CUPS problem

I'm new to these forums, and reletively new to Linux - so hello.

I currently have SuSE 9.2 installed and I'm trying to get my printer on that box shared to my Windows PC. I've configured Samba (file sharing is working fine), but I can't manage to get printing working. I've looked in /var/log/messages and find this:

May 12 18:26:37 linux smbd[3702]: [2005/05/12 18:26:36, 0] printing/pcap.c: pcap_printer_fn(361)
May 12 18:26:37 linux smbd[3702]: Unable to open printcap file /etc/printcaps for read!

If I look in /etc/printercap it correctly finds my printer (deskjet720c) and I can print from the command line no problem (lp <filename>). However, I am unable to print from Windows even though it appears Windows setups up and installs the correct printer driver.

Any ideas?

From smb.conf:

[global]
workgroup = HOME
load printers = yes
printing = cups
printcap name = /etc/printcap
printcap cache time = 750
cups options = raw
printer admin = @ntadmin, root, administrator
username map = /etc/samba/smbusers
map to guest = Bad User
include = /etc/samba/dhcp.conf
logon path = \\%L\profiles\.msprofile
logon home = \\%L\%U\.9xprofile
logon drive = P:

...and

[printers]
comment = All Printers
path = /var/tmp
printable = Yes
browseable = no
guest ok = Yes
public = yes
writable = no
printer admin = root
[print$]
comment = Printer Drivers
path = /var/lib/samba/drivers
# write list = @ntadmin root
# force group = ntadmin
# create mask = 0664
directory mask = 0775
read only = yes
browseable = yes
guest ok = yes

Any ideas?

Thanks.

First, edit /etc/cups/mime.convs and uncomment the following line at the very bottom of the file:
File: /etc/cups/mime.convs

application/octet-stream application/vnd.cups-raw 0 -

Then edit /etc/cups/mime.types and uncomment the following line at the very buttom of the file:

File: /etc/cups/mime.types

application/octet-stream

Thanks for that - but I get:

Connection failed: Remote host refused connection in Windows.

do you get that error on your windows machine?
you want to make sure the windows user is properly setup in samba to make the connection using smbpasswd -a %user%
