Printer via on-board ethernet while using W-LAN?
Hi!
This is kind of a crosspost which I had in "Hardware" before but no answer there.
I am thinking about getting the HP Photosmart C5180 since I read several times that it works flawless with Linux and esp. with SuSE (10.1 here)
Just a question about a detail: The printer has a USB and a Ethernet connection. My Linux box has an on-board Ethernet which I don't use since I have a Wireless PCI-Card (RaLInk) that connects it to the router in another
room.
Right now the on-board ethernet is deactivated in the BIOS since only the W-LAN card is used. Once I made the experience that the W-LAN could not be activated (a red "failed" at startup) after a boot with the ethernet
activated but not configured.
My question is, if I can use the on-board ethernet plug to connect the printer directly via Ethernet
since it is standing directly next to it. A connection to the router is physically impossible (too far away).
How would it be configured?
Thanks for any hints and help!
Oliver
