1 router
1 linux (Redhat 9) connected to that router
1 pc connected to that router
2 macs connected to that router
1 Laserprinter (HP) connected to the Linux
Ok, so everything works well, i mean, general networking. All the computers can see eachother and browse their shared folders.
The HP is connected to the Linux due to having no printserver.
So i configure the Linux to install and share the HP using Linux's printer configuration. Works fine.
All computers are running under the same WORKGROUP
I can print from the macs, which by the way are both running Panther 10.3.5.
The pc is running XP pro. If i add a (network) printer it gives me the computers in the workgroup; The macs and the linux.
Clicking each of them does not give a list of printers, well the HP i mean.
So the Macs have no trouble printing to the Linux, but the pc does.
There's no firewall on the pc blocking any outgoing stuff.
Well:
Can you see the printer when you go into " My network places" on the desktop? If you can, then you can just double click the printer and XP should ask you if you like to install it... If it does, then just pick a driver and that should be it.
Anyway, it sounds like it does not show-up at all... If this is the case, try typing the path to the printer in the run dialog and see what it says. For example, "\\server\hp-printer". Of course, replacing \\server\hp-printer with the proper names and or addresses for your config.
When I first configured my network, the SMB printers would not show-up under the add-printer dialog in Windows. I had to type the path or go through "My Network Places".
I know it can be done, because my setup works well. My girlfriend prints tons of stuff to my Linux box and we never had any problems...
I hope this helps!
