Printer Connection in HP Laserjet Professinal P1566
Hi
I have a problem regarding on printer connection using samba on linux machine.
I have a HP Laserjet Pro P1566 printer which is installed on Windows Xp machine. I want to connect my linux machine to the printer but the problem is there's no driver for the printer.
I have read some article about hplip 3.11.12.
I am able to install this software but i still can't print using samba connection.
Have you added the printer in cups? ie. you open a web browser, and enter http://localhost:631 and follow the add printer function? You need the root password. You will be adding a network printer, so you need network sharing set up on XP first.

thanks for the reply maybe i can use computer IP address instead of localhost am i right?
Do you have a /etc/hosts file? Is it updated with an entry like this :
I have configure the printer but i still cant print.
Cups is working properly when printer is directly connect to linux machine not like
if printer is connected to windows xp machine and connect linux machine using samba server.
Ive got this error message:
Quote:
Printer State: Idle - Filter "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip-hplip" for printer "HP_P1566" not available: No such file or directory
Quote:
Status Message: Printer 'HP_P1566':'printer requires a binary plugin, run hp-setup'.
please help

The error messages, do you have the foomatic package installed? I'm at all sure you need it, however, it appears something is looking for it.
Yes i have foomatic installed but there's no foomatic option when you select HP Laserjet Professional P1566.
On old printer's foomatic are present but on a new generation printer like HP Laserjet P1566 foomatic is absent.

Second, have you run hp-setup at the second messages asks?
Yes i already run hp-setup but i cant see any option how to connect to a printer shared on a windows machine.

If you browse from the linux system, can you see the printer on the XP system? Can you see other shares?
Yes i can see the printer shared on windows xp, my problem is i cant print due to incompatible printer driver or samba
problem.
I conduct searching in google that maybe installing foomatic can help me.
But where can i download and how to install this package for a new generation printer like
HP Laserjet Professional P1566.
You told me before you can print to the printer if its attached to the linux system. For that to work, you have the correct drive. This is not a samba issue.
You need to add a remote printer through cups. The printer will be //hostnameofXP/prinername/ . If you can see the printer, then all that should be required is to add it.

Yes i can print if printer is attached on linux machine, my problem is, if im connecting the linux pc to a printer shared on windows pc, ive got error's example: "hpcups failed".(USING SAMBA)
So i decide to search if i can use ipp connecting linux pc to windows pc.
By the way i already read that article/ (link you give)
