pppoeconf doesn't detect access concentrator in debian-sarge

Okay, weird problem. In knoppix, I run the pppoeconf and it detects everything, I just type my username and pass to connect to my ADSL account. But, the same tool in Debian-sarge with 2.4 kernel doesn't work. I tried loading ("modprobe via-rhine"; "modprobe pppoe") but it still doesn't work. Any ideas what do I have to do?
