hiyya...
am having an adsl connection,i configured my internet connection as ppp(setting pass and user inside router). Now am trying to configure it as pppoe,my os is gentoo,i emerged rp-pppoe,and ran pppoe-setup ,and configured pppoe.conf according to my isp, everything seems to be working when i issued "pppoe-connect" and it says "...connected"..then i done "ifconfig"..and ity seems that ppp0 is up..and i can see there that a dynamic ip is assigned from my isp.But the real problem is that am not able to access the internet,is it some sort of problem with name servers?..am confused
I think you mentioned you're behind a router. If your internet connection is PPPOE based, then the pppoe client software is being used on the router, (according to what you posted).
If so, your comp's connection is a regular ethernet connection to a network. Your computer doesn't need to worry about pppoe because the router is taking care of that.
SO, all you have to do is set your connection for DHCP if your router is also acting as a dhcp server.
If the PPOE client software is on the router, you don't need to use it on the computer.
Galaxy..what you said is exactly correct, and am presently accessing the internet based on that,as i am putting my login infos inside the router, and getting connected to my isp directly by switching on the modem, but my query here is to how to setup a pppoe client application here to connect to the net.in windows its easy as 1...2..3,to setup the same connection using the wizard, and a short cut to the dialer will be placed on desktop, here in linux i tried to use rp-pppoe to connect, and finally ended up with the problems i mentioned in the first post
