pppoe connected, can ping dns successfully, but no internet

Hi, I want to use broadband on my fedora13.

After setting up pppoe, my pc is in network. I could ping to dns server i got after connection.

/etc/resolve.conf is showing dns servers.

But i cant browse anything..

/sbin/pppoe-status cmd output shows that link is up.

Network connection icon on desktop panel is showing 'x', which means no connectivity

Can you ping any IP-adresses on the internet? for example 74.125.39.147 which is google.com?
If this works, can you ping any sites on the internet via name?

Well, this means that you have a connection not only to your DNS-server but also to the internet. But your DNS-server isn't configured properly, which can mean either your /etc/resolve.conf has a wrong nameserver entry or your DNS-server doesn't work properly. It is possible to use a public nameserver of google which has 8.8.8.8
Try "nameserver 8.8.8.8" in your resolve.conf (without the quotes)

I checked active connections in Network window, I could see ppp0 as active connection. On it's DNS tab, there are 2 ip's. I copied them in /etc/resolve.conf.

As this is PPPoe connection, do i have to make a copy of /etc/resolve.conf into '/etc/ppp/resolve.conf' ?

I'd recommend to read the manpage for pppoe.conf. I'm not very familiar with pppoe on Linux.

Are you able to browse the internet now?

Yes,Markush...Thanks for the help.(Now, I am replying from my linux m/c )
But, What could be the root-cause for this issue? Using public DNS server, wont it make insecure and slower browsing.

If you have a DNS-server you can use it. Using a public DNS-server isn't really slower since the DNS-client on your computer has a cache. And don't forget, that your DNS-server does the same thing as the DNS-client on your computer, it resolves a name in the internet (asking a public DNS-server) and then caching it (and transmitting it to your computer).
I don't think that there are security-issues when using a public DNS-server.

I remember when I (seldom) use a pppoe-connection, I always have to use a public DNS-server. So this seems to be correct for these connections. Otherwise it doesn't explain why your DNS-server isn't working, could you provide more information about your network? why do you have a DNS-server and how is it connected to the internet.
