i have Redhat 7.1 on a p2 266Mhz, 192MB ram.
i have problem connecting to ANY isp . I have tried rp3 (gnome)
kppp (kde), but i get the following error:
error 16 : pppd daemon died unexpectedly.
on turning on the debugging option under kppp, it says "Modem SIGHUP (can't help you there)". no matter what settings i change, i can't get it to work. if it helps, i had to change the dial string to ATX3DT, because it couldn't detect a dial tone.
Any answers? 'cuz i can't take it, surfing the net from windows.
hello,
check route -n on terminal if there is entry with 0.0.0.0 then
use route del default and try again connecting.
also check ifconfig which will display ppp0.
if this doesnt work then try running pppd from terminal and repeat the above steps.
goodluck.
bye
Actually , the error was that kppp started pppd before required, i.e, my modem timeout was set to something like 30 secs, which is the default.
when i set it io an arbitrarily high value, like 120 secs, it worked fine, and all's well that ends well; i've finaly deleted the windows partition from my system!!
I was having the same problem a while ago.Try enable debugmode in pppd and see wat's happen.I have seen that's the autentification was
bad and the server was broken so i have added in /etc/ppp/options the following lines
lock
receive-all
refuse-pap
require-chap
defaultroute
Read carefully man pppd if you can't resolve the problem. In etc/ppp/options u can add lines to enable pppd messages but u must modify also syslogd.conf and send him a sighup signal.
