PPP problems with Redhat 8

I am running Redhat 8 and am having problems configuring PPP. My pppup script used to work before, then I switched to ethernet for a while and now switching back, it doesn't work. I made sure to reconfigure to "dialup".
Here are the segments from the /var/log/ppp file. I dial in fine, but never get to the authentication part. Why is this happening?

Using interface ppp0
Connect ppp0 <--> /dev/modem
sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0x0) (majic 0x6ccefc4f) <pcomp> <acomp>]
rcvd [proto=0x43] 0d 0a 2a 2a 2a

Then a bunch more sent/rcvd statements, and finally:

sent [LCP ConfRej id=0x6b <auth chap m$oft<]
Hangup (SIGHUP)
Modem hangup
Connection terminated
Exit

I made /etc/ppp/chap-secrets look like /etc/pap/pap-secrets

<username> * <mypassword> *

But I think I know what the problem is, my ISP expects to use chap MD5 for authentication, how do I configure it?
