You didn't tell us which software do you use for ppp.

If you are using roaring penguin ppp (rp-pppoe) and if you setup by yourself, then "pppoe-status" to see the ppp status.

Always better to download and use the latest version of roaring penguin ppp where you can setup graphical connection window. There it shows the data rate (both upload and download).

I am sorry. I don't know anything about it. I never tried it.

My net connection was always pppoe (connects via lan and need username and passward). And I always used rp-pppoe for my connection. And still I have no trouble. I get the accurate download upload bandwidth given by my ISP.

But a little google search may solve your problem. I searched "ppp0 ifconfig" and got a lot of related document, quaries and replies there.

Best regards.

i used to watch my ppp0 status through using Network Monitor. Its an applet that can be added to gnome panel.U can get more infn (by clicking it)like how many packets or data transferred and in the support panel ur ppp ip,server ip etc.

Also its shows u by red mark when the service is down.
