ppp dials up ISP but I can not access internet
I hope this is the right place to post this question.
Could this be a frewall issue? I have been usng Slackware 10 and KDE for a couple years now and all of a sudden I can not access the internet. With browsers I get "Server not found" No browsing, e-mail, ping, whois... root@thunderbolt:/# ppp-on root@thunderbolt:/# Serial connection established. Using interface ppp0 Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0 PAP authentication succeeded local IP address 216.178.50.234 remote IP address 66.45.209.172 root@thunderbolt:/# whois rhythmkngdrums.com getaddrinfo: Temporary failure in name resolution root@thunderbolt:/# root@thunderbolt:/# ping rhythmkingdrums.com ping: unknown host rhythmkingdrums.com Any ideas would be great. |
This may be a problem with /etc/resolv.conf not being set up properly. You can test whether resolv.conf is the problem by entering the two following addresses into your web browser:
http://164.214.2.59 http://www.nima.mil If you get through on the number address but not on the name address then you do not have /etc/resolve.conf set up properly. ------------------- Steve Stites |
Seems the ISP changed nameserver ip address
Thanks for the help.
I contacted the isp and entered the new nameserver address in my resolv.conf file. I stll have no idea how my firewall works but at least the problem is solved. I like slack! |
