Port forwarding to RH 9.0 machine not working
I was wondering if someone could offer some suggestions to an annoying issue I've recently run into. Here's a rundown:
- Using an SMC SOHO router, port forwards to our Windows NT4 server machine work fine. We are running a mail and web server, so ports 25, 110, and 80 are pointing to the internal IP of the NT4 box without issue. - I have been unable to forward any port whatsoever to the Linux server and am at a loss as to why. - I can get access to the port of interest from any machine connected to our LAN without incident. - I thought that port forwarding just redirected the traffic as per the router's specification. Any ideas as to what might be going on? I have tried two different routers and countless firmware upgrades to no avail. TIA, JL |
Welcome to LQ.
Perhaps there is something funny with your routing table - is the default route pointing to the IP address of the router? I assume you don't have any firewall rules blocking the port on the redhat box? |
Port Forward Woes
Hi there,
Routing table seems to be fine (nothing out of the ordinary in there). I had tried plugging the machine of interest directly into an available port on the router and even attempted the DMZ option with no luck - seems that I can't forward anything to this RedHat 9.0 machine for some reason but the NT4 server has numerous ports being forwarded without issue... Regards, JL |
What about the firewall on your linux box?
