Unhappy Port forwarding issues with Dlink DSL 2640R

Hi, I'm trying to build a Minecraft server, but I have come to a stumbling block when it comes to port forwarding. I have gone through all of the steps given to me on a well known port forwarding website, and yet, when I attempt to play the game externally, it doesn't connect.

I will give you all the information I can. If you need any more information, please ask.

Computer: Compaq SR5219UK
Operating System: Ubuntu 10.04
Broadband Provider: Virgin Media
Router: D'Link DSL 2640R
Router Firmware Version: VM_1.06
Router Hardware Version: B1

Notable Information while ringing Virgin Media:
They do not supply Static IP Addresses to home users, only business users, which I am aware could be an issue.

Other Notable Information that I have seen, but want confirmation if I need to change it. My IP Address is within the DHCP Range. ATM I am on 192.168.1.2 and the DHCP Range is 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254

Information Gathered from 192.168.1.1
Setup Heading
ADSL Subheading
WAN Connection: PVC0
ADSL Connection Setup: PPPoE/PPPoA

PPPOE/PPPOA INTERNET CONNECTION TYPE:
Connection Type: PPPoE VC-Mux
MTU: 1492
Authentication: Auto
NAT: Enable
IGMP: Disable
Default Route: Enable

VPI:0
VCI:38
Virtual Circuit: Enable
Service Category: UBR
PCR:0

LAN Setup Subheading
Router Settings
Router IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

DHCP Server Settings (Optional):
DHCP Server Enabled
DHCP IP Address Range: 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254
DHCP Lease Time: 259200 Seconds

At this point, if i need to set up a manual static IP, i think I can do it. I am assuming that I need to take my ip address out of the DHCP range, and copy my IP address and my MAC address, set it to manual config and then set the status to static. I will wait on your confirmation before I do this, however.

I have checked for a firewall on ubuntu, saw that it was ufw. While interacting with this, I did these three commands.

sudo ufw enable
sudo ufw allow 25565
sudo ufw disable

If you need any more information, please let me know.

Thank you all for the help, and I'm sorry if this is either too much or too little information.

I have tried to set up a static IP regardless, but i have had some issues with this. Everytime i try to set up the ip address out of the DHCP range, it dissappears from the available ip list, and accessing the internet, and router settings fails.
