port closed

I have this problem with a Mandrake machine. When I ssh through any port, I get the following:

ssh: connect to address *.*.*.* port 22: connection refused

and I don't know what to do, I tried to disable the firewall and IPchains, and IPtables, but to no avail. I have had no luck, is there some for of lokkit for Mandrake out there or what?

Are you using TCP Wrappers on your system? You may need to make a change to your hosts.allow file.

So are you talking about inward connections to Mandy, or can't make any outward connections?

If it's inward connections, do netstat -tanp and see that you are actually listening.

If it's outward connections, look in your /etc/ssh/ssh_config file for client permissions, encryption options etc.
