poptop on mandrake 10.0

I'm trying to set up poptop on my mandrake 10 with 2.6 kernel box (I have it happily running on a mandrake 9.2 with 2.4 kernel box).

I've downloaded and compiled poptop 1.1.4. Everything works fine except that I am unable to make an encrypted connection.

The config files are:
pptpd.conf:
Code:
################################################################################
#
# Sample PoPToP configuration file
#
# for PoPToP version 1.1.4
#
################################################################################

# TAG: speed
#
#	Specifies the speed for the PPP daemon to talk at.
#
#speed 115200

# TAG: option
#
#	Specifies the location of the PPP options file.
#	By default PPP looks in '/etc/ppp/options'
#
option /etc/ppp/options.pptpd

# TAG: stimeout
#
#	Specifies timeout (in seconds) on starting ctrl connection
#
# stimeout 10

# TAG: debug
#
#	Turns on (more) debugging to syslog
#
#debug

# TAG: bcrelay <if>
#
#	Turns on broadcast relay to clients from interface <if>
#	Not yet implemented this way. Read README.bcrelay
#
#bcrelay eth1

# TAG: localip
# TAG: remoteip
#
#	Specifies the local and remote IP address ranges.
#
#	You can specify single IP addresses seperated by commas or you can
#	specify ranges, or both. For example:
#
# 192.168.0.234,192.168.0.245-249,192.168.0.254
#
#	IMPORTANT RESTRICTIONS:
#
#	1. No spaces are permitted between commas or within addresses.
#
#	2. If you give more IP addresses than MAX_CONNECTIONS, it will
# start at the beginning of the list and go until it gets
# MAX_CONNECTIONS IPs. Others will be ignored.
#
#	3. No shortcuts in ranges! ie. 234-8 does not mean 234 to 238,
# you must type 234-238 if you mean this.
#
#	4. If you give a single localIP, that's ok - all local IPs will
# be set to the given one. You MUST still give at least one remote
# IP for each simultaneous client.
#
localip 192.168.0.3
remoteip 192.168.17.224-238
# or
#localip 192.168.0.234-238,192.168.0.245
#remoteip 192.168.1.234-238,192.168.1.245
options.pptpd
Code:
## CHANGE TO SUIT YOUR SYSTEM
lock

## turn pppd syslog debugging on
#debug

## change 'pptpd' to whatever you specify as your server name in chap-secrets
name maelstrom

proxyarp
nobsdcomp

# This option applies if you use ppp with chapms-strip-domain patch
#chapms-strip-domain

# These options apply if you use ppp with mppe patch
# NB! You should also apply the ChapMS-V2 patch

#auth
#require-chap

+chap
+chapms
+chapms-v2
mppe-40
mppe-128
mppe-stateless

# These options will tell ppp to pass on these to your clients
# To use ms-wins or ms-dns in options.pptpd it must exist in /etc/resolv.conf
ms-wins 192.168.0.1
ms-dns 192.168.0.1

192.168.0.3:
and modules.conf
Code:
alias net-pf-4 ipx
probeall scsi_hostadapter ata_piix sata_promise
alias sound-slot-1 snd-emu10k1
alias eth0 sk98lin
above snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm-oss
above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0
probeall usb-interface usb-uhci ehci-hcd
alias eth1 3c59x
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394

alias char-major-108 ppp_generic
alias tty-ldisc-3 ppp_async
alias tty-ldisc-14 ppp_synctty
alias ppp-compress-18 ppp_mppe
alias ppp-comress-21 bsd_comp
alias ppp-compress-24 ppp_deflate
alias ppp-compress-26 ppp_deflate
alias net-pf-47 ip_gre
Any ideas?
Do the 2.6 kernels have mppe support normally or do they need a patch? (I have a ppp_mppe module listed by lsmod whenever I use the VPN but it doesn't seem to do much good)

My guess is that your problem is that you have these lines in options.pptpd

+chapms
+chapms-v2

They should be

+mschap
+mschap-v2

I think that they changed that with the latest version of poptop.

1. What is the client OS? XP, 9x or W2K? You need to install the encryption package for W2K and 9x. It is included in XP.

2. options.pptd have changed.
Use
require-mschap-v2
require-mppe-128

instead of
+chap
+chapms
+chapms-v2
mppe-40
mppe-128

When trying to connect look at the errors from /var/log/messages.

Just saw this. I never could get PopTop to work on Mandrake. When I try to:

# rpm --install pptpd-1.2.1-1.i386.rpm

I get the following error:

error: Failed dependencies:
ppp >= 2.4.3 is needed by pptpd-1.2.1-1
libwrap.so.0 is needed by pptpd-1.2.1-1

I can't seem to find libwrap.so.0 for MANDRAKE anywhere. Nor do I know what it is.

Hello,

I have problems with PPTPD 1.2.1 on Mandrake 10.1

I have installed:
ppp-2.4.2-8mdk.i586.rpm
pptpd-server-1.2.1-1mdk.i586.rpm

And when i try to connect with the server (via a pc on my own network or via an external pc) I get the same error message.
"651 Your modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error."

on my server however i get nothing...

my /var/log/syslog's only entries on pptpd are:

Jan 30 20:40:08 dhcppc2 pptpd[16607]: CTRL: Closing child BCrelay with pid 0
Jan 30 20:40:08 dhcppc2 pptpd: pptpd shutdown succeeded
Jan 30 20:40:11 dhcppc2 pptpd[18494]: MGR: Manager process started
Jan 30 20:40:11 dhcppc2 pptpd[18494]: MGR: Maximum of 6 connections available
Jan 30 20:40:11 dhcppc2 pptpd: pptpd startup succeeded

So it seems as if there is no connection made whatsoever.

Anyone has an idea on how to fix my problem?

After i changed it back to allow all... I tried to connect with a windows 2000 vpn client... and i get a 628 no answer error...

And...

My mandy 10.1 server hangs...

Any ideas?
