Poptop and DHCP

Hi,

I've recently installed Poptop on a Linux 9 server, successfully. However, I need my sales people to connect their Windows (NT,2000,XP) laptops from their hotel rooms to my server using a VPN connection.

The problem is that these laptops are assigned ip's using the hotel's ISP's DHCP server. Since I don't know these addresses in advance, how to I setup Poptop so that these workstations can connect?

Is it even at all possible?

Thanks, in advance, for any help you might be able to give.

Regards,
Rikk

i think u r asking how to change IPs assigned by poptop. right?
look at /etc/pptp.conf file. u can change IPs of your server and clients.
also check /etc/ppp/chap-secrets file. it s possible to assing a specific ip per user.

Not exactly,

When I tested this at the customer site, my Windows client station had a specific IP attributed by their DHCP server. This is the address I put in /etc/pptpd.conf file. It worked fine in their environment.

But when I get home, when I connect to my DHCP router, it assigns me a different IP. Furthermore, my firewall does NATting so when I try to connect to my customer Poptop server, it doesnt recognize my Windows client station, although it does authenticate my usernameassword.

My knowledge of Poptop is fairly new. Is this the right tool for me tu use, considering what I want to do?

Thanks!

Rikk
