Pop3 Command stream end of file while reading line

We keep running into this errors on a new Suse 9.1 box.

May 12 15:55:01 simon ipop3d[30642]: pop3 service init from 10.10.10.25
May 12 15:55:01 simon ipop3d[30642]: Command stream end of file while
reading line user=??? host=office7.simlab.com [10.10.10.25]

When I try a manual pop of the server I get this:

[sean@ras sean]$ telnet simon pop3
Trying 10.10.10.1...
Connected to simon.
Escape character is '^]'.
+OK POP3 simon.simlab.com v2003.83 server ready
user sean
-ERR Unknown AUTHORIZATION state command

I have this setup running on a RH 9.0 box and all went just fine. Do not know what to do except remove the qpopper, download the current version and remake qpopper? Any ideas

TIA
