Pop-3
 

Hey guys,

I'm running RH 7.0 and pop-3 is installed and running by default. I was wondering though why I can't telnet to it and what files need to be configured in order to do so. I got sendmail configured and I was able to configure outlook to use it successfully. Now I'm trying to get my pop server going and I am wondering if I needed another program to work with pop or if there was one with the RH 7.0 distro?

Hi ,

U sure POP is running ? DO "ps" command to verify it.
If its not running then u need to edit the file /etc/xinetd/pop3
and enable it.

one of the reason why ur not able to connect to it is that firewall may be running on ur machine ( do "ntsysv" and disable iptable and ipchains to run at startup) or because the /etc/host.deny has entreis that prevent u to do telent on that port) .

If ur not sure about the port of ur pop then lookout in the file /etc/services.
