Question plz help


hi my name is avi i own alittel hosting company .

my quastion is how can i limmit connection to port 80

2 or 1 connections from the same ip.

Avi, most people who want to block usued ports use a firewall. I don't see which disto you are using, both most all of them come with some type of firewall. If you are asking about redirecting ports, (like sending port 80 to a proxy server) then that can be done in iptables. Write back, maybe with more info we can help.

i have ibm 335 dual xeon 3.06 2 gB ram
redhat enterprize es 3.0
kernel 2.4
direct admin control panel installed.
1 GBIT internet connection.

i tryed to limmit namber of connections per ip with iptables

iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --syn --dport 80 -m iplimit --iplimit-above 2 -j DROP

but got the folowing output:

iptables: No chain/target/match by that name



haw can i limmit namber of connections per ip

Hi,

the iplimit match is not included in the default kernel sources nor iptables program.
See this :

you've got to use patch-o-matic, you'll find all needed doc on http://www.netfilter.org/documentation

once you'll have patched your kernel, you'll see new options for iptables when building the kernel.
select the one corresponding to iplimit, then your command line should work well, since it seems to me that the syntax is correct and that it really do what you want.
