Hi,

What is the exact purpose of the Server in your collage environment?

Depending on the requirement we have to configure server and enable services. For example if you want to share files in the server you have to run Samba service.

Thank u for answer and care

C I will explan 2 u every thing

first I have server PC and I was installed Mandrake OS as a server then I connect the enternet by using Domain

Hi,
You don't need samba to access internet. Samba is just for sharing files between windows and Linux.

You could share internet by using a proxy like Squid or some firewall rules depending upon your internet connection type and screnario.

I hope you have two NICs in your Linux server.

you can always download samba from samba.org

Thats one.

But again majority of distros DO include samba, just try suse/fedora if possible.

Its very easy to configure samba in any case(irrrespective of distro)

doh, If you just wanna to share internet, yes you can use squid.

I would suggest you install webmin into the Mandrake box and start with the Networking Section.
The info required is the same as the M$ 2000 server as networking is the same, then go to the Servers Section and configure the file serving, authorisation and login server, and dhcp etc if you wish.

dunno about two nic's, but if he has a switch - He can always connect his broadband modem/router etc to switch itself , since broadcast and collision domains will be different anyway.

What beats me about this is why the Professor asked someone who has no idea what to do to set up the server in the first place...

I hate to agree.

When Rami Nissar says "server" - We are not very clear as to what kinda of server - File sharing, Mail server, database server Internet sharing server or what.

So, I am clueless what to help with.

I thought he'd been pretty clear on post #3 that he just wants to set up internet sharing.

On the request, no great surprise to anyone with any affiliation or work history with a university
