ping6 error "conect: cannot assign requested addres

I am running RedHat 8.0 (kernel 2.8.14-18) with IPv6 support. Yesterday, we got the black out. After rebooting the system, I am not able to ping6 to the gateway. The error is "connect: cannot assign requested address". I see the ipv6 module by running lsmod command. I am able to ping6 my local IPv6 as ping6 ::1 or ping6 2001:1:1:1::5. However, I can ping to IPv4 gateway as ping or beyond the gateway to
Any hints or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
