ping problem

Hi

I have a SuSE 10 box which will be used as a firewall. Even if I ACCPET the data from all the chains, the box does not respond to my echo_request packages.
From command line
Code:
 # iptables -F
 # iptables -A INPUT -j ACCEPT
 # iptables -A OUTPUT -j ACCEPT
Even with the configuration above, it does not respond.

I listen the interfaqce of the firewall with tcpdump. The machine receives the echo_request messages but does not respond.

The value in /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_ignore_all is 0. I can connect to machine with ssh.

How can I make it to respond my pings? And one more question, how can I permamenently set /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward to 1.

Thanks....

does it reply if you ping within the server? If yes, is your server behind a firewall?

Hi

Actually, when we ping from the server, it is ok. The server sends the ping requests and gets replies from the hosts. There is no firewall between the server and the hosts. Actually the server itself (i call it sever but it is not) will be a firewall.

The machines are connected to the same hub. The problem is that, the server does not respond the echo_request packages. It receives the packages (I see from tcpdump), but does not respond.
