ping flood


what exactly is the purpose of a ping flood? It does seem to use up a lot of bandwidth...

A ping can be used to load test a network or host.

A ping flood can be use maliciously to DoS a machine by using up all it's bndwidth.

ok, cool. that probably explains why dropping pings is so popular these days also.
