password protect squid proxy
I have installed squid on my system. It is running quite fine but every one can use squid proxy on my network. I want only specific user to use squid, so I need to password protect squid proxy, so that only those users can use it to whom i have given the password. Tell me how I can do that. If possible please give me some example of the option which I need to change.

read the page
Did you just scan the page he gave you the link for right at the top it says
"If the header is missing, Squid returns an HTTP reply with status 407 (Proxy Authentication Required). The user agent (browser) receives the 407 reply and then prompts the user to enter a name and password. The name and password are encoded, and sent in the Authorization header for subsequent requests to the proxy. " you can setup the user name and password in the proxy settings for the browser or it will prompt you for a user name password after you setup the ACL's How else do you plan on authenticating the users passwords transmitted via telepathy? |
