Partial Internet

Howdy! I am a newbie. I just set up Debian, worked through video and sound issues; I love it and am working on switching a second box over to debian. The first box is on my network, along with a win xp home desktop and laptop. I can browse my Windows XP home desktop and laptop, from Debian. I can get on the internet from the Debian box as well. I have a d-link dl-524 wireless router, also acting as dhcp server. The problem I have is that from the Debian box and the laptop, some sites time out. ie I can log into my yahoo mail account but cannot get to my inbox. I can log into and read from this forum, but I cannot post (I am posting this from the WIN xp desktop. Any ideas why I am having these isssues?

sounds very random... tried a different browser?

I thought that the browser could be the problem also. So, I tried three different browsers. All had the same problem..

Any other ideas/suggestions? Maybe something in the router settings?

Someone sugested, in another forum, that those pages that don't show up, may require activex that is not on the machines that time out. Does this sound viable? If so, how could I confirm and correct?

well, LQ posting sure doesnmt require activeX, so that kinda randers the theory non viable.

I am a newbie, but the theory didn't make sense to me. I am sure that
tany browser would report if it needed something that it didn't have.

I think that it has to be something in my router or firewall settings.
But, I had such a hard time getting those to play nice, I am afraid to
go in and randomly make changes. Any other ideas? Has anybody else out
there had this problem?
