paranoia: you can steal data from a wired network switch?

i overheard the following.... you can't use that switch because it is not secure. this was referring to a cheap wired network switch, such as a DLINK DES-108 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817111035

apparently there is some do-hicckey out there that can be placed near or on top of the case of the switch, and it can just steal data. so a network switch or router can't be used.

I'm pretty sure it was made clear that this is NOT a wireless switch, and it was not said that someone can plug a network cable into an open port on the switch.... it was said someone can walk up to it and place something on or near it and grab network data.

humor me with justification to this.

Anything electronic can emit a signal and just about all computer equipment does like monitors, keyboards, cpu etc. So it should be possible with an ethernet switch.
