pairing my motorola citrus with linux bluez-utils

I am having trouble pairing my phone with the bluez-util on linux to my phone. I don't even know how to start off, I know I'm suppose to be at the root@3[~] prompt but my linux box I am always at root@bt# I am wondering how do I get it to be at root@3[~}.

at the root@3[~}# I type "hcitool scan hci0" but it says device not found error message.

the next step is to do at root@3[~]# bluesnarfer -r 1-100 -b then the ip address of my phone but I'm getting an error there like device not found. how do I start off by pairing my phone with linux. Could you please send me a step by step essay on how to go about doing this from where I got to the bactrack, then select bluetooth and from there what do I do or select.

Pete
