Just had me a hand-me-down with something ... hmm ... plugged in. A PCI card where a PCMCIA card can be plugged in, and the card is a WIFI card called "Orinoco"...
Any chance this thing can be re-used? Maybe as a WIFI repeater or so?
I had an old laptop that had a PCMCIA wifi card with an Orinoco chipset. The driver was a little tricky to compile. The original firmware was only capable of a WEP connection, although a firmware upgrade was supposed to allow WPA. There was no facility for WPA2.
I never got that device working to my satisfaction. I could get a connection but it was short lived. I ultimately decided that there was a hardware problem.
My advice is to consign it to history. Not worth the time and bother.
