Unhappy openwebmail error ...help...

Hi All,

I am having some problems getting openwebmail working.

I have installed the rpm on my redhat 9 server.

When I try and access the openwebmail.pl page I get:

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request.
Error message:
Premature end of script headers: openwebmail.pl

when i type "perl -T openwebmail.pl" I get;

Content-type: text/html

SCRIPT_DIR not set in /etc/openwebmail_path.conf

Every hour I am receiving messages via cron email telling me:

/etc/cron.hourly/openwebmail.cron:

Can't do setuid

when I type "./openwebmail.pl" it says:

can't do setuid

I have googled and googled, and have found no solution or even good reason why this is happening. Many people seem to be getting the same browser error (premature end of script.....)

Can someone please help me?

Thankyou

Lucas

Unhappy openwebmail for linux7.1 problem

hi all,
I am having some problems getting openwebmail working .
I hava finished openwebmail2.21 on my linux7.1 server.
When i try and access the openwebmail.pl page by 'http://192.168.0.2/cgi-bin/openwebmail/openwebmail.pl' i get:
'/usr/local/apache/cgi-bin/openwebmail/openwebmail.pl' must setuid to root

I have found no solution or even good reason why this is happening. Many people seem to be getting the same browser error .

Can someone please help me?

Thankyou
Highly appreciate your prompt reply.

Hi,

I know how annoying your problem is. There seems to be no good docs. to explain why the problem was happening.

I went back to the basics and checked all dependencies in the openwebmail readme.

It turns out I had an older version of perlsuid* than was nessesary.

I updated to the latest version (somthing like persuid-5.8.0***.rpm (I am running redhat 9), in place of the old perlsuid-5.0.0??)

This instantly fixed the problem and my cron messages dissapeared also.

Let me know if this helps you, (if not what distribution are you using?)

http://openwebmail.org/openwebmail/doc/faq.txt

========================================================================
INSTALLATION & STARTUP PROBLEMS
========================================================================

Q: I got "SCRIPT_DIR not set in /etc/openwebmail_path.conf !" error?
A: On systems not passing perl script name as $0, openwebmail relies
on /etc/openwebmail_path.conf to know the directory it locates.

Please put 'the path of your openwebmail cgi directory' in the first
line of file /etc/openwebmail_path.conf.

For example, if the script is located at

/usr/local/apache/share/cgi-bin/openwebmail/openwebmail.pl,

then the content of /etc/openwebmail_path.conf should be:

/usr/local/apache/share/cgi-bin/openwebmail
