OpenVPN in VirtualPC, no default gateway

Hey,

Im using Openvpn to connect to a proxy server and reroute back to the internet. After establishing the openvpn connection in a VirtualPC2007 virtual pc, the internet connection is apparently lost, despite still being able to ping external addresses.

More specifically:

I open google in Firefox or IE. I establish the VPN connection. I can then navigate briefly on the page that is open, for example clicking on "images" or "business solutions" on the google homepage. I can't open any other sites or use other applications like Windows Messenger. I can ping external sites.

I have the exact same setup inside a VMWare Workstation virtual pc and it works with no problems, so I dont think the problem is with my openvpn config files.

I ran the Windows Messenger connection troubleshooter, and it ran into a problem at the "Default Gateway" step, although it doesnt specify anything beyond that.

I've run an ipconfig/all on both the not working VirtualPC and the working VMWare machine, and the difference is that for the not working VirtualPC there is no entry for the "Default Gateway" on the regular network adapter after the OpenVPN connection is established.:

When the OpenVPN connection is not made, the VirtualPC has full connectivity. It is using a NAT connection from the host. Also, while the VirtualPC can ping external IPs when the openvpn is connected, it cannot ping the openvpn default gateway 10.10.0.1

Any ideas? I'd appreciate any suggestions...

Do you have to use the VirtualPC? What about another virtual machine, like coLinux?
