I have decided to try to make a cluster of about 5-8 computers running debian and openmosix. I am using 1 head node and eventually would like to be able to ssh to the head node and issue commands. I am not a noob, but i am no expert either. I have read up on openmosix and my plan is to put ubuntu all the nodes and then patch openmosix in. I realize that this is not going to be easy, but any help or tips would be great. I have heard of something called scyld which seems like a really simple way to do all of this, but i don't know. Anyway, to start, I would like to get 2 nodes talking to each other. So I should be able to do this:
Code:
cd /usr/src
apt-get install kernel-source-2.4.19 kernel-package \
openmosix kernel-patch-openmosix
tar vxjf kernel-source-2.4.19.tar.bz2
ln -s /usr/src/kernel-source-2.4.19 /usr/src/linux
cd /usr/src/linux
../kernel-patches/i386/apply/openmosix
make menuconfig
make-kpkg kernel_image modules_image
cd ..
dpkg -i kernel-image-*-openmosix-*.deb
on both machines and (after configuring the /ect/openmosix.map file) they should be able to talk, right? And then repeating this process on all of the other nodes will give me a pool of nodes that can interface. From what I've read, to make a head node, I need to purposly slow down the node with
Code:
mosctl setspeed [n]
where n is a really slow speed.
So this is a lot of stuff to read, but if anyone sees a problem or has any suggestions, I would love to hear them. thanks
