Opening a L2TP/PPTP tunnel from debian to win 2003

I assume that what I'm looking for is a tunneling demon that would create me a VPN tunnel when the system boots.

I would settle for a simple command line tool as well.

What software / kernel do I need to use for VPN tunnel creating from linux to windows ?

Thank you,

p.s. A "howto" would be great

We are doing the same thing with friends (mixed linux/windows).
It's not perfect yet (we just started), but we got some good results.
We use openvpn, which is open source and aviable for windows and linux. We used the tutorial on the official website and everything went fine.

good luck

I'm sorry but it seem's you've misunderstood me.

I use the windows 2003 RRAS service as the tunneling gateway, its not even subject to my judgement - That's the way it was build. All i'm asking for is what client application should I use to create the tunnel from a linux box.

Thank you and good luck with the tunneling between friends (:

Is OpenVPN standards-compliant?

As a user-space VPN daemon, OpenVPN is compatible with with SSL/TLS, RSA Certificates and X509 PKI, NAT, DHCP, and TUN/TAP virtual devices.

OpenVPN is not compatible with IPSec, IKE, PPTP, or L2TP.
