I have been a Linux user for about 6 months, and have always had network card problems, finally I found the only Linux release that supports my card (ADMtek 8211)natively: Ubuntu. My internet and everything worked fine for about a week and then it stopped. I can use certain protocols (Skype) but can't surf the web or use Gaim. I have been told that gateways generally hate Linux, and have reset my gateway to all the defaults and haven't been able to fix the problem. I also tried running the Ubuntu live CD to check if I accidentally messed up anything with my OS, but the CD has internet problems now too. My computer is dual boot and runs Windows Xp, and that has no networking issues whatsoever.
I think what messed my linux up was when i power cycled the router, next morning I couldn't surf the net anymore or use gaim, just skype. Btw tremulous doesn't work either.... lol. So im guessing its not so much DNS, but who knows
Gateways like Linux fine. Are you using some kind of a dsl router?
What is the 192.168.0.1 entry in your resolve.conf file good for?
If you don't know, put # at the beginning of that line.
It is not likely after a router reset, but it could still be a firewall issue. Check whether your outbound traffic is allowed to pass in the router configuration.
hey baikonur, yes, i do hve a DSL router, (actiontek), ill check what the ping google.com does when i get bck home, according to one of my friends, i have to switch the ISP's DNS server to be primary (the first on the list0 and have 192.168.0.1
probably i could just remove the LAN server as baikonur said, but, as long as the ISP server is first, everything works fine. Thanks for the hep guys (and gals)
