One-To-One NAT?

OK, i'm a little confused on what the purpose of One-to-One NAT, now i understand how to set it up and all, but I dont see why it would be any better than just mapping a conduit to port 80 (i'm putting up a new web server). All i seem to understand is that the machine would get its own external IP address but is there really any use in that? Well i think what I'm really trying to ask is does one-to-one nat protect my network in any way if the machine on one-to-one is comprimised?
