onboard sis900 network card

I installed redhat 7.0, with kernel 2.2.16-22
and in the booting process from (dmesg) I found a message that
prompt
sis900.c: v1.06.03 12/23/99
eth0: Error EEPROM read: 0

What that means?

They changed some things in the newer chips so the old drivers don't work well anymore. It's a known problem in the 2.2 kernels. Either get a update driver or a new kernel. The problem has been fixed I think from kernel 2.2.18pre and onwards.
