Check your log files. You will need to be root to do this. Open the file(s) /var/log/dmesg or messages or syslog and look for the line relating to usb devices. You didn't say what you are trying to configure but it would be very unusual for the kernel not to pickup the usb controllers on the mainboard. If you are not sure how to open the gui root file manager then from the command line do;
YAHHOOOOOOO!!! I went into BIOS and found that my usb and onboard modem was not enabled they were both disabled. All I had to do was enable them restart pc and viola now I get this
